National Day Message 2025

Dear Fellow Singaporeans,

On behalf of the Board, Management, and entire team at Hope Initiative Alliance (HIA), I extend our warmest wishes for a joyful and meaningful 60th National Day.

As Prime Minister Lawrence Wong reminded us in his 2025 National Day Message, SG60 is not just about how far we've come, but how we continue to stand together in an increasingly uncertain and fragmented world. Our strength lies in our unity and in how we choose to lift one another up, not just in words but through action.

This year, we reflect on the journey of a nation that many once believed would not survive. Singapore’s strength has always been found in our unity amidst diversity, our resilience through adversity, and our collective commitment to a better future. These same values shape and inspire the work we do at HIA.

Though small in resources, HIA has made remarkable progress in just six years. We are now an Institution of a Public Character (IPC), recognised for our strong governance and unwavering commitment to the common good. We have launched new programmes, expanded our partnerships, and steadily moved in the direction of impact-driven charity work. Each day, we strive to improve—not just in service delivery, but in the way we build lasting relationships across communities and sectors.

We are especially proud that Hope Initiative Alliance was conferred the Public Sector Transformation Star Partner Award in 2025—an honour that recognises strong partnerships with public agencies and meaningful contribution to national goals. It affirms our commitment to work collaboratively in uplifting lives and advancing social cohesion.

In recent months, our partnership with the Ministry of Manpower (MOM) has deepened. With their support, HIA will increase cultural exchange activities, expand skills training for migrant workers, and strengthen peer support among migrant domestic workers. These initiatives reflect a shared commitment to inclusion, empowerment, and lifelong dignity.

This progress would not have been possible without the tireless dedication of our management team members, partners and volunteers. I especially want to thank Rev. Samuel Gift Stephen, who leads the Alliance of Guest Workers Outreach (AGWO), and Joyder Ng, who leads the Alliance of Domestic Employees Outreach (ADEO). Both have been instrumental in shaping our efforts to care for migrant workers since the very beginning.

I also want to acknowledge Life Centre Community Services, one of our earliest partners, whose work in skills development at recreation centres helped catalyse the growth of our training programmes. Likewise, Caring for Life and SowCare Ltd have been key partners in our mental wellness efforts, supporting suicide prevention and well-being courses that are now integrated into our new care programmes for domestic helpers.

This year’s Racial Harmony Day celebration at Sembawang Recreation Centre—jointly organised with MOM’s ACE Group and 24asia—was a meaningful milestone. Over 100 young Singaporeans stepped up as the organising committee, facilitators, creating space for connection and cultural exchange between locals and migrant workers. Through this, our Sowing Care Together movement demonstrated the strength of youth leadership in advancing care, respect, and inclusion for our migrant worker community.

Notably, HIA is the first charity in Singapore to introduce interfaith dialogue for migrant workers, as a way to reduce social distance both among themselves and between them and the local community. Through guided visits to the Harmony in Diversity Gallery and heritage sites like Telok Ayer, we bring faiths and communities together to learn from one another, fostering mutual understanding and building lasting bridges of trust.

In recent years, we’ve moved from serving to co-creating with the migrant community.  Volunteer migrant groups like 24asia, Singapore Migrant Friends, and SGMigrant Volunteers have become our ground partners, adding richness, relevance, and depth to our programmes. Together, we’re not only delivering services but building shared ownership in the work of care. This is a reflection of our belief that building a better society must be done side by side, with every individual seen, heard, and supported.

Through everyday acts of care, we uphold dignity. Through trust and partnership, we strengthen social bonds. And through shared responsibility, we move forward—together. This is a true testimony to the SG60 theme: Building Our Singapore Together. We honour the past, rise to today’s challenges, and look ahead with faith—not in what any one of us can do alone, but in what all of us can build together.

Together in Improving Lives. Together for a Caring Singapore.

"Since its founding in 2018, HIA has been providing comprehensive care to marginalised individuals in Singapore, including citizens, residents and migrant workers. Arising from the COVID-19 pandemic, HIA has broadened and deepened its outreach programmes in partnership with MOM to provide care, training and community engagement to both our migrant workers and migrant domestic workers. I would like to congratulate HIA for receiving this year’s Public Sector Transformation Star Partner Award. This is due recognition for the outstanding and consistent good work which HIA has been doing since its inception."
