Holistic Care for the Homeless Amidst COVID-19
In 2019, it was reported that there are over 1,000 homeless people in Singapore. As beaches and parks are no longer accessible due to the COVID-19 situation, rough sleepers are now struggling to find a place to sleep and are highly susceptible to contracting the virus.
In order to sow care for these homeless individuals, Hope Initiative Alliance (HIA) is working with the Ministry of Social and Family Development (MSF), as a national aggregator of assistance, to advocate for temporal Safe Sound Sleeping Places (S3P) throughout the Circuit Breaker period. Many of our partner organisations have also responded to our call to support this cause.
Other than providing S3P, we are also looking at giving them a small allowance or ex gratia, as well as meals, medical assistance and necessary items they need for better living conditions. In-kind donations are also much needed, such as mattresses, comforters, pillows, blankets, towels, clothing, hygiene items, and many more. 100 sets of these items are ideally required to sustain their needs. Please call our hotline at 6304 3486 before sending off these items.
This effort to aid the homeless community follows our recent SG United Amidst Adversity (CharitiesCaringTogether) initiative, which brought together more than 50 charities and assisted 5,000 beneficiaries through the provision of care packs (as reported by The Straits Times, 26 Mar).
Your generous giving will impact the lives of the vulnerable, especially in this trying period
